What you would be doing

  • Managing a portfolio of business clients across companies, trusts, and individuals
  • Preparing financial statements, income tax returns, BAS and activity statements
  • Working with a diverse client base across various industries
  • Delivering solutions that help clients make confident, well-informed decisions
  • Mentoring junior team members
  • Getting involved in business development and networking opportunities
  • Working closely with Partners on advisory and complex client matters

What you’ll bring with you

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CA or CPA complete (or well progressed)
  • 5+ years’ Australian public practice experience
  • Strong technical knowledge of Australian tax and superannuation legislation
  • A genuine client-first mindset and the relationship skills that come with it
  • Confidence with Xero, MYOB or similar and an interest in using tech well
  • The kind of clear, plain-English communication that builds trust quickly

Peta Grenfell - Profile photo
Partner

Peta Grenfell

Peta is a Partner of Grenfell Murray and has many years experience in public practice, banking and with the ATO.

Peta joined Peter Wilson and Associates in 2005 after spending more than ten years travelling, working in banking, finance, IT, and as a compliance officer at the ATO. This diverse experience allowed her to quickly build her tax and advisory skills, becoming a Partner in 2007.

Since 2007, she has managed many of the changes at Grenfell Murray, helping the practice evolve into the successful staff and client-focused business it is today.

Peta enjoys assisting clients to truly understand their financial position and engage in growing and managing their businesses.

Her areas of technical expertise include foreign tax, QBCC and superannuation, where she works with clients to design outcomes that can save tax and compliance costs, allowing families to grow their wealth faster.

She is the current Matthew Flinders Anglican College Board Chair and previously chaired the Bentleys Australia Technical Advisory Committee. She has presented at conferences on technical matters, including business restructures and superannuation and regularly presents for the Master Builders Australia Sunshine Coast branch.

Peta holds a Bachelor of Business in Accounting, with an extended major in Professional Accounting and is also a Fellow of CPA Australia. She completed a Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning in 2015 – specialising in superannuation advice.

Brendon Murray

Brendon is a Partner of Grenfell Murray, and has over 30 years’ experience in public practice.

Brendon commenced his career with Price Waterhouse Cooper (PwC) in their Hunter Valley offices of Scone, Singleton and Maitland.
In 1997, he moved with PwC to their Brisbane office, where he worked in their emerging markets area, advising family businesses on all areas of compliance.

In 2002, Brendon started work at Bentleys Queensland, where he quickly worked through the ranks to become a Partner in 2007.

During his 21 years at Bentleys, Brendon grew strong and meaningful relationships with his many clients, building an evergrowing, successful practice specialising in tax, compliance and business advice. He practised in the Bentleys Sunshine Coast office until 2023, when he and Peta purchased the practice.

Brendon delivers clients a complete business service with proven experience in business planning and structuring, management consulting, mergers and acquisitions and all areas of Australian taxation.

He has been the Bentleys Australia Technical Advisory Committee chair and presented at many conferences on his specialist area of client relationships and practice growth. He currently chairs the Sunshine Coast Lifeflight Regional Advisory Committee and was recently invited to join the board of the Lifeflight Foundation.

Brendon holds a Bachelor’s degree in Financial Management and is a member of The Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand.

Gemma Jamieson | Director

  • What’s your nickname? Don’t really have one. ‘Gem’ or ‘you’re a Gem’ tend to the best I get.
  • Do you have any pets? What are their names? I have two. A dog called ‘Koda’ and a cat called ‘Indianna Jones’. One always wants to get in the house and the other always wants to get out. It’s pretty intense in our doorways. 
  • What’s an interesting fact about you?  I am really creative. I draw, paint (oil & acrylic) , sew, crochet, knit.. you name it, I’ve had a crack at it and have at least one half completed project at home ready for when I have more time. I’ve sold more than 50 oil paintings.  
  • Name your favourite travel destination. Why? Anywhere that I get to hang out with my family, explore, unwind and reconnect. Recently it’s been trips to Fraser or Straddie but we have a big international trip on the horizon and I can’t wait.
  • What’s your favourite part about your role at Grenfell Murray? The variety! One day I’m discussing profit & cashflow with a small business owner and the next I’m working my way through international tax laws. Every day is different.

Jane Rice | Manager

  • What’s your nickname? My family call me Janie, my middle name is Esta so I’ve also had people call me Polly….
  • Do you have any pets? What are their names? Maggie the Labrador, and 5 Chickens – Nugget, Mabel, Black Lightning, Burger & Shiny. We had another called Ebony Rae, but she sadly passed away recently and we are on the hunt for a replacement! 
  • What’s an interesting fact about you? I lived in London for 2 years in my early twenties and spent the summers working as a cook on Topdeck tour buses and the winters as an accountant for re-insurance firms. Needless to say it was 2 very different worlds

Michelle Putney | Bookkeeper

  • What’s an interesting fact about you? I grew up on a cattle property north of Roma – it was the best place to be a kid!
  • Name your favourite travel destination. Why? Austria. My husband and I spent our honeymoon there and loved the food, culture, and amazing scenery. We cant wait to take our children there one day.

  • What’s an interesting fact about you? I spent a few years during my childhood living at a racecourse. My dad was the manager. The day after a race meet my brother and I would go through the betting ring looking for money people had dropped. One day we found a $50 note. We felt so rich!
  • Name your favourite travel destination. Why? One of my favourite places I have visited is New Orleans in the USA. An amazing mix of history, food and music.

  • What’s an interesting fact about you? I married my high school sweetheart & we now have 2 children together (3 if you include the dog)
  • Name your favourite travel destination. Why? We did a quick “babymoon” through Europe while I was pregnant with our daughter, including cruising through Italy & Greece. I would love to go back to see Santorini as we weren’t able to get there due to weather on the day. I also loved the Swiss Alps – would go back to Switzerland in a heart beat.

Madeline Dowling | Systems Transformation Manager

  • Do you have any pets? What are their names?  My husband and I recently adopted a beautiful senior Border Collie cross named Reina.
  • What’s an interesting fact about you?  My first time going on a plane was when I was 18, heading to South America for a 3-month long backpacking trip, by myself… It was the adventure of a lifetime, and I haven’t stopped travelling since.
  • Name your favourite travel destination. Why?  South America for its landscapes and people, Egypt for its history, and South-East Asia for its food.  Italy also holds a special place in my heart as its where my husband and I eloped and spent almost one month exploring.  A European summer is hard to beat.
  • What’s your favourite part about your role at Grenfell Murray? – The variety, solving problems, and making people’s lives easier through technology and best practice.  I enjoy strengthening systems in a way that enables team members to spend more time focusing on their clients.
